Syracuse University Selects Specops Deploy for 10,000 Workstations
Syracuse University is recognized as one of the top colleges and universities in the United States. Syracuse attracts and retains some of the America’s top academics, and the school’s administration strives to get the greatest possible return for its investments. To learn, students need more than classrooms, curricula and professors. They also need a solid IT infrastructure in place to support the applications and software that a modern college campus requires.
Syracuse helps ensure the success of its students, faculty and staff by running a top notch IT organization. With more than 20,000 students, 1,500 faculty, 3,000 staff and 10,000 workstations, Syracuse’s IT leadership group had a large job on its hands when it first determined that the methods that had been used to traditionally deploy software at the school would need to be radically improved over a 6 month project time-frame.
As one of the nation’s top schools, there was no shortage of technology companies interested in selling IT products and services to Syracuse. The Syracuse IT leadership team undertook a very diligent and extensive review and planning process that resulted in the selection of highly-rated Windows deployment software Specops Deploy.
Specops senior product managers worked closely with Syracuse through a proof of concept phase that ensured that Syracuse’s key IT staff was fully supported during and following the evaluation process.
With over 30 applications to be deployed across 10,000 workstations in 13 schools and colleges and in dozens of buildings, Syracuse's Tim Jorgensen, IT Analyst, and his team have one of the largest, most challenging and most time sensitive IT jobs at Syracuse.
“Specops Deploy has helped us move our deployment projects ahead faster than ever before," said Jorgensen. “The software works as Specops promised. Applications and courses are being delivered the way that they are planned and the needs of students, faculty and staff are well supported. It’s a great product for us at Syracuse.”
