Installation

The Specops Gpupdate 2.0 download is a self-extracting file that will extract the setups needed and a Setup Assistant that is automatically started. The Setup assistant search for prerequisites, registers Display Specifiers in AD etc. The Setup Assistant is shared with Specops Gpupdate Professional and the only difference after choosing to install Specops Gpupdate or Specops Remote Assistance is that Specops Gpupdate Professional requires a license key, while Specops Gpupdate does not. Installation of Specops Gpupdate 2.0 does not require a license key, but if the extended feature set of Specops Gpupdate Professional is to be tested as well, the trial license key sent with the email received need to imported from the Setup Assistant. If the Specops Gpupdate Professional Trial license key expires, Specops Gpupdate Professional will simply revert to the feature set of Specops Gpupdate 2.0.

After Specops Gpupdate 2.0 is installed the ADUC menu will have six new options in the context menu for ADUC, five commands ready to be used directly and one menu item called Specops Gpupdate Professional…. The Specops Gpupdate Professional option opens the same interface as is included with Specops Gpupdate Professional, but only with the commands included in Specops Gpupdate 2.0. One of the main uses for this interface is that it is possible to actually change, add, delete the other menu commands of Specops Gpupdate, this technology is called Pinning, for example it is possible to create an additional menu item that uses the Gpupdate command but by default adds the Force parameter and then give this item a descriptive name such as Gpupdate with Force, that will display exactly like this in the ADUC menu.
