Specops Password Notification

Introduction

The purpose of the Specops Password Notification™ product is to inform users about upcoming expiration of Windows passwords by sending them emails. This makes users aware of the upcoming password expiration and lets them change the password in good time before the password expires, thus reducing the workload on companies’ helpdesk. This is especially useful for remote users who rarely log on to computers on the internal network.

Licensing

There are two types of licenses for Specops Password Notification. The Trial license and the Full license.

Management level

The Specops Password Notification server works within a “scope” of management. The scope is defined as Domain or organizational unit (OU) in Active Directory.

Trial

The trial license has all the features of the product enabled. The license has no limit on the “number of seats” it can be used for, but it has an expiration date. When that date has passed the product will stop working.

Full

The full license has no expiration date but is limited to the “number of seats” that have been purchased.

The full license uses a “per user” model. That is, the price will depend on the number of users in Active Directory that exists in the selected management level and that are affected by a Specops Password Notification GPO.

A full license can be purchased from Specops Software, a Specops Software Reseller or Partner.
