Installation

Specops Password Notification is installed by using the Setup Assistant. Execute SpecopsPasswordNotificationSetup.exe to start the Setup Assistant.

The Setup Assistant automatically detects if the 32-bit or 64-bit setup package should be used during installation.

Follow the instructions of the Setup Assistant and complete the steps below.

1. Install/update the license

  • Install/update the license on the Welcome page by pressing the “Update License” link.
  • After a valid license has been imported, press the “Start Installation” link.
  • Read and accept the agreement.

2. Install the Server

Press on the Server button to start the Server installation. Note that the Server component will be installed on the local computer where you are currently running the Setup Assistant.

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites need to be met to successfully install all Specops Password Notification Server component.

Operating system
The server software requires one of the following operating system configurations:

  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2003, including R2

Local permissions on server for user
Some of the setup steps requires you to be part of the local Administrators group. Make sure that the account you are running with meet this requirement.

Configuration

Select service account
Select the user account that the service will run as. The selected account doesn’t need to have any special administrative privileges in the domain. Note that the selected account will be assigned the “Log on as a service” user right.

Note! If Security Filtering is applied on a Specops Password Notification GPO, then the service account must be granted read permissions on the GPO (not Apply permissions).

Management level
The selected management level will be used as the search base when searching for user accounts to determine if password expiration e-mails should be sent or not. The management level can be the domain level or any organizational unit (OU).

It is also used in the license validation process to calculate the number of affected users.

Select preferred domain controller (optional)
The domain controller that is selected as the preferred domain controller will be used in all operations against Active Directory by the Server component. If no preferred domain controller is selected, the domain controller will be used that the server has established a secure channel against.

Install Server

Specops Password Notification server installation
Click the Install button to install the component.

3. Install the Administration Tools
