Deploying the Microsoft 2007 Office System
In order to remotely install the Microsoft 2007 Office System with Specops Deploy, and thus by using Group Policy, you need to read through this guide.
First make an initial Office setup, and then make it unattended:
1. Launch the setup.exe on the Office Enterprise media with the /admin parameter.
Now you have started the Office Customization tool(Note that the Office Customization tool is only available in the Enterprise edition).
2. Here you need to make all the basic settings for your installation. The most important things are that the setup should run silent. That means setting the display level to none.
You will also need to provide your license key.
3. When you are done, save the settings to an msp file.
4. Copy the MSP file and the content of you 2007 Office System media to a shared folder.
Now, please start up the Specops Deploy admin console, either by editing the appropriate Group Policy or by starting the Specops Deploy Command Center found in the program files menu:
1. Create a new legacy package and use the setup.exe as the command.
2. The parameters for the setup is /adminfile and the path to the msp file you just created.
3. Save the package
4. Run the package Deployment wizard.
5. Select your target computers.
6. In the installation options, select to only install the package after the computer has been booted(Note that the installation will not work if you do not select this option!).
7. In the end user interaction, select that the package can run visible for the users (This is needed because even though you have selected the installation to run silent, the setup will display an 2007 Office System splash screen).
Now all you have to do is to wait for the next Group Policy refresh interval on each of the target PCs and voilá, 2007 Office System will be installed.
